The Catalyst 2948G 10/100BaseTX Ethernet Switch from Cisco comes equipped with (48) 10/100BaseT Fast Ethernet autosensing and autoconfiguring fixed ports and (2) 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet ports with modular GBIC interfaces. The unit has an RJ-45 console management port that supports DTR and DSR. The unit uses Layer 2 forwarding with an aggregate forwarding rate of greater than 17.8 million packets per second and has 24Gbps bandwidth. It has support for 16,000 Media Access Control (MAC) addresses per system and can support up to 1,024 Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) with: IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging on all ports, support for VLAN Trunk Protocol (VTP), and support for port aggregation using Port Aggregation Protocol (PAgP) for Gigabit EtherChannel.The unit is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u standards for 10/100BaseTX Ethernet/Fast Ethernet and has support for out-of-band management over serial lines through a terminal attached to the RJ-45 console interface. It also has support for 10BaseT out-of-band management and in-band management through any switch port via SNMP, Telnet client, and Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP).
